A message from my Dad…

Mornin’ y’all! My Dad wrote this for you…

šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡šŸ‘‡

Hi Everyone,

They say that a personā€™s true wealth is what they have left over after you subtract all their money and all their material possessions. If that is so, then I am one of the ā€œwealthiestā€ people in the world.

I have a wonderful family, both immediate, and extended. I live in a city that was voted the ā€œthird most liveable city in the worldā€. I have above average health for my age, a beautiful loving wife of 38 years, and four happy, successful and kind children, with two grandchildren, all who have rich lives.

Thank you to all who sent messages and wished me well for my 60th birthday. Some of you I know, some I donā€™t and some I probably will never meet but you are all part of my ā€œwealthā€.

If I may have the audacity to give a nugget of advice, it would be: Donā€™t shut down your life!

I hear people all the time saying ā€œI canā€™t do that anymoreā€¦ā€, or, ā€œI donā€™t have anything to do with ā€˜so and soā€™ anymoreā€¦ā€, or Iā€˜m too old to learn aboutā€¦ā€

I have an uncle who just turned 96 who ran a successful Australian retail business and kept working into his 90s. Heā€™s learning social media. I have a friend that is trekking a difficult trek and we are planning to do the John Muir trail together, Heā€™s 76. I have another friend who taught me guitar beginning 45 years ago, who still surprises me with musical knowledge, chord structure, progressions, alternate time signatures..Heā€™s 87. A number of my running buddies are over 60.

Keep going. Appreciate what you have, not what others have, and expand your life.

Gerard Oā€™Leary (Joelā€™s Dad)

Happy Fathers Day to all you Dad’s out there.

(And for all the Dad’s that are no longer with us, we love you and remember you and celebrate you too!)

Have an awesome day!
– Joel
