The Rock Doctors

About 10 years ago, I got a phone call from my Dad. He was really excited:

”Hey Joel, I’m starting a band! Me, Pat, Brassy, John, Boney Bob, *insert about 10 other nicknames I’ve never heard of*… We’re all gonna start a band called The Rock Doctors!”

I was a little surprised. Dad was almost 50 years old at the time and has been a white collar professional his whole life. So it was hard to picture him as the lead guitarist in a rock band.

A few months later he called me again:

“Hey Joel, we booked our first gig! It’ll probably cost us more in gas to drive there and pay for equipment rental than what they are paying us, but we don’t mind. We got a gig!”

A year later the Rock Doctors were playing regularly at some well known restaurants and pubs around Adelaide.

A few years after that they got a band manager. They had a busy schedule. They even had a small cult following. My wife and I booked them to play at our wedding in Hawaii!

Today, the Rock Doctors are one of the coolest bands you will ever see. Later this month, they’re playing at the infamous Fringe Festival in Adelaide!

Rock Doctors!

Anyway, the reason I’m sharing this story is because it’s never too late to follow your dreams and start a rock band.

Whatever your hobbies and interests are in life, follow them. Do them, then do them some more. Keep doing them until the day you die.

Happy Sunday, have a great rest of the weekend!
