About 2 years ago, I got turned down for a job opportunity.
I was crushed at the time. I thought it was a perfect fit for me. I remember waking up the next day and writing this email about rejection, trying my hardest to stay positive. But inside I felt like absolute crap.
Friends tried to cheer me up by telling me things like “everything happens for a reason” and “it’s probably a blessing in disguise”…
Well, just this past week, I found one of those blessings…
I saw this note on Twitter:
This was written by a successful executive. And while I’m sure she’s a really nice lady and smart person, I couldn’t disagree with her more.
I hate it when successful executives push young people to work on weekends. Working harder, not smarter. It can be extremely unhealthy. I encourage people to do the exact opposite.
Anyway… I did a little digging and found out who this lady is. It turns out she is the principal of the parent company at the job I got turned down from. If I was to actually get that job 2 years ago, she would be one of my bosses right now!!!
And since today is Saturday, I would feel pressure to work this weekend. But instead, I plan to shut my laptop and relax with friends and family.
Turns out getting rejected from that job was a blessing in disguise after all.
So for any of you out there dealing with rejection or getting turned down from job opportunities… Keep your head up. Whether it takes you 2 weeks or 2 years to realize the silver lining, it will come. Everything does happen for a reason, and you’re probably better off.
Have a relaxing weekend, all! I love you.
