My wife and I got a new couch a few months ago.
As soon as we brought it into the living room, I could see Cooper (our dog) sniffing around and wagging his tail thinking, “thanks for buying me a new bed, guys! The old one was getting stinky!”.
For the past ~9 years Cooper has always been allowed on our couches… But not anymore. This new couch is different. We want to keep it nice and dog free.
So I told my wife we should teach the dog NOT to jump on the couch. How hard could it be?
Can you teach an old dog new tricks?
******
In life, I hear people say things like:
- I’m too old to start a side hustle
- It’s too late to change careers
- My traveling days are over
- I’ll never be able to do XYZ
- This is the way i’ve always done it, I can’t change
But the truth is you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. And people CAN learn new things in life —> Age is irrelevant.
Change is hard, but it’s not that hard. It’s a matter of internal beliefs.
Today, I encourage you to try anything and everything you can. You can learn and do whatever you want in life. I honestly believe that.
(and if you don’t think so, come around to my house and meet my geriatric dog. Not only does he respect new couch rules, he can still learn any new trick we teach him)
Have a great day!
